New Forums (Updated) (1 reply)

Over the past few months, the admins have been discussing some options to allow this site to better maintain its current focus -- the discussion of the Green Bay Packers. While some would strongly say that this has been a problem, others would strongly disagree and suggest that it has been a serious problem. We've had some posters leave because of the plethora of threads available in one particular topic.

So, we've been weighing the options, and have decided to compromise. We don't want it to look like we're trying to censor conversation here, because we're not. But in an effort to clean up the main forum, we've decided to create a new group of forums, called "Football Forums." This will be the location in which all non-Packer football discussion should occur. We've moved the Fantasy Football and Mock Draft forums to the Football Forums group. Also inside the Football Forums group, there are three new forums, each of which serves a specific purpose.

-The Favre Wire: For discussion of all matters Brett Favre.

During the coming days, we will be working to move old threads to the appropriate forum. We would appreciate those that post new threads on these matters to do so in the correct forum. If you forget to or for some other reason don't, we can just move them for you as well.

If you have any questions, please feel free to respond to this thread!

Update: We've removed the NFL and College Wires for now. If a significant number of posts about other teams or college football shows up, then we'll consider reinstating them. For now, just continue to post these within the PackerWire.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Update: Site Problems (no replies)

We are currently experiencing some site problems that are affecting the ability to post messages. We are working on the issue, but we do not currently have an ETA as to when the issue will be resolved. I'll try to keep updating this thread as I have more information.

The site is currently in read only mode to avoid posting issues.

Update: Over night the issues seem to have resolved themselves. I'm not sure what exactly the problem was, but I will keep an eye on the site throughout the day.

This should help keep this information in its own place for future reference.

We'll move posts for mock drafts into that forum if they're created in the main forum, just in case people forget!

New features (no replies)

As many of you have already noticed, we have implemented a terms of use and privacy policy for the site. Before making a new post, you must agree to the terms of use. A link to these and an agreement form are available on the post page. Additionally, any new users will need to agree to these at registration. Links to both the terms of use and privacy policy are available on the bottom of every page.

Because I've been an iPhone user for a while, I've been wanting to get an iPhone version of the site available. With a new plugin for Phorum that allows this to be done easily, I have implemented a non-full featured iPhone version of the site. This should automatically load if you load the site on an iPhone or iPod Touch. Please note that it is not yet possible to respond to threads with this version of the site. You can create new posts, oddly enough. This plugin is in development, but it is nice to be able to load a faster version of the site on these handheld devices.

Another new feature I've implemented is the ability to use Twitter. For those familiar, you can follow the Packer Wire Twitter account and be notified when new posts (NOT replies to existing posts) are made. For those unfamiliar with Twitter, it's probably a little difficult to describe. But you can check out their website at www.twitter.com.

To view the Packer Wire twitter account and begin following it, you can visit www.twitter.com/packerwire.

If there are any questions, comments, or suggestions about any of the new features, please let me know in this thread or PM!

Site Slowness (Update) (1 reply)

I'm aware of the site slowness currently being experienced. The problem has been identified, and we'll be working on getting things adjusted in order to speed up the site once again.

Hopefully we'll have it resolved soon.

**UPDATE**

This problem should now be corrected. We have moved the site to a new MySQL server to handle the database loads better. This should result in better performance in the future.

Primary Domain Change (no replies)

In order to better serve visitors, we've switched the primary domain name of the site to www.packerwire.net. This will have no significant impact on usage, other than needing to login upon your first initial visit to the moved site. After that, the site should function as normal.

When visiting any of the following domains, you will get redirected to the www.packerwire.net site, so there is no need to update bookmarks, links, etc unless you desire to do so:

packerwire.ws
www.packerwire.ws
packerwire.org
www.packerwire.org
packerwire.us
www.packerwire.us
packerwire.info
www.packerwire.info

This move has ALREADY taken place.
Post Counts (2 replies)

It seems that some post counts were lost for several people. In some preliminary investigation, this is largely due to changing usernames, even slightly, during the last move or at some other point in the past. At other points, it seems that the old board stored the username in the message table inconsistently, and I don't know how that's possible. However it was done, it caused posts to be lost.

I'm working on getting this corrected, but it may take a little bit of time to get right.

Signature Help (3 replies)

In looking through the forums, it appears that a lot of users have a simple URL placed in their signature, which on the old forum was automatically presented as an image. Here, those are presented as a link, making the signature probably appear differently than you intend it to. To solve this is simple. You'll need to add [img] and [/img] tags around the link. It should look like this when you're done:

[img]http://www.url.to/image.jpg[/img]

Additionally, I've noticed that some users want to have different colored text in their signature. In order to do this here, you will need to do:

[color=#colorcode]Text[/color]

or

[color=red]Text[color]

The font tag is not supported in this way in this software's BBcode.

Welcome to the "New" Packer Wire (Please Read) (7 replies)

I first of all want to thank everyone for their patience with the problems experienced at the old board. We've been wanting to get this done right for a while now, and the pieces have fallen into place.

Registered and active users at the old forum should have received an email with a new password. You can change this upon logging in by going to the control center link in the upper right hand corner of the page. This is also where you can adjust settings, such as preferred message listing and reading formats.

If you did not receive an email with your new password, and you were a registered, active user at the old forum, please contact us by posting in the "Site Help" forum. This forum allows anonymous posting in order to deal with password issues. This is also where you should post questions dealing with the site and software running the site.

Anyway. That's enough for now. Enjoy the new site. :)
